Nintendo finished its E3 keynote : Peak Review

Nintendo finished its E3 keynote a little yesterday and after being bored half to death by some of the less interesting announcements, Nintendo announced not only Super Mario Galaxy 2 but also a new Metroid game called Metroid: Other M.

This game is not another Metroid Prime game and it’s not being developed by Retro Studios. Instead, this looks like a side scrolling Metroid game much like the original Metroid and the popular Super Metroid.Metroid Other M seems to be a hybrid firstperson meets thirdperson action title and will be released in 2010. Finally, we were treated to a taste of a Super Mario Galaxy sequel. Super Mario Galaxy 2 features more 3D Mario action.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was also announced, starring not only Mario but finally brings back his dinosaur steed Yoshi. If you haven’t seen the trailers for these games I recommend you look them up on the Internet. You won’t regret it.Nintendo also confirmed an updated version of the Wii Fit, called the Wii Fit Plus (trailer), due out this fall. A full list of Nintendo’s announcements is available, which includes more games and new features.

The new 2D Super Mario Bros. which looks and plays like the original but adds new twists to the mix. The biggest addition we know so far is the ability to have up to four people playing together co-operativity. Team work looks to be the key in figuring out puzzles in this game with everyone controlling a different character. So far we have seen Mario and Luigi and multi-colored Toad people but no Princess Peach or Bowser. Also everyone can get their own Yoshi dinosaur to beat on the head! This time around Mario has the help of his long time friend, Yoshi, to explore the galaxy with him. Expect the same gorgeous brain twisting 3D planet puzzles with a graphical upgrade as well.

If you didn’t get a chance to check out the trailer for Metroid: Other M, here’s a video that’s already been posted on YouTube. It’s from Nintendo’s E3 keynote, the quality is iffy but shows off what the game is about.
Team Ninja teams up with Nintendo to bring us a brand new Metroid game in 2010. Metroid Other M is a step in a different direction from the previous generations of Metroid games mixing third-person fighter style action along with first-person shooter perspectives. Reggie promises that the new title will take us deeper into the Metroid universe and reveal more of Samus’ story. From what we saw it’s very action packed and visually stunning and topping the rest of Nintendo’s presentation.
